Godzilla and Kong have been on our screens since 1933, totally 87 years of movie magic. In that time they’ve had their fair share of rivalries, death defying fight scenes and general scraps with a plethora of enemies.

Attempting to control these beasts is Monarch. Monarch was first founded in cooperation with the US military to identify these creatures. Monarch is responsible for discovering the Titans, a gang of MUTOs (massive unidentified terrestrial organisms) who Monarch believes are attempting to wipe out mankind into total extinction of the species. Godzilla is Alpha of the Titans, while Kong was discovered by Monarch in 1973 on an expedition to Skull Island after the Vietnam war.

1. Mothra

Mothra, known as Queen of the monsters was seen to be born in larval form during Godzilla: King of the Monsters but we later see her in all her glory. This bioluminescent winged spectacle has had an on and off again relationship with the Toho Co. Godzilla. During the 1964 Mothra vs Godzilla, we see Godzilla defeated by Mothra’s Caterpillars. Since then however, we have seen Godzilla and Mothra team up in order to beat King Ghidorah the alien invader.

2. King Ghidorah

Known as Godzilla’s ultimate nemesis, this monster originally named Monster Zero, is akin to a three headed dragon type creature. Ghidorah’s origins are thought to be extraterrestrial in the Toho Co. movies, in the Legendary universe, he is known to be off-world.

3. Behemoth

Also known as Titanus Behemoth, this ape-like creature looks like a cross between a Gorilla and a wooly mammoth with huge curling tusks. The Titan was created for Godzilla: King of the Monsters and was originally being held in captivity by the Monarchs until eventually breaking loose from the containment facility.

4. Rodan

A Pterodactyl cross Eagle like creature first featured solo in the 1956 movie Rodan. In 1964 we see Rodan team up with Godzilla and Mothra in order to beat King Ghidorah. In King of the monsters however we see a less obliging kaiju, deciding to spread fire and destruction wherever he goes.

5. Methuselah

This Titan looks akin to a tortoise cross elephant hybrid on account of his tusks and humped back carrying an entire forest. A forest grew upon this ancient titan after destroying a village in Germany in the middle-ages. At the beginning of King of the monsters, Monarch believes they have Methuselah under control, until Ghidorah awakens the titans that is!

6. Scylla

Similar to Toho’s kaiju Kumonga, Scylla is a giant spider cross cephalopod with gruesome tentacles. Like Behemoth, Scylla was in containment under the observation of Monarch, until it’s successful escape attempt in King of the monsters.

7. MUTO 1, 2, 3

Godzilla comes across 3 MUTO’s. A male and female duo in the 2014 Godzilla and a further larger female in Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

A further 8 Titans were seen on computer screens in King of the Monsters, comprising of:

  • Mokele-Mbembe
  • Baphomet
  • Tiamat
  • Typhoon
  • Abaddon
  • Leviathan
  • Sargon
  • Bunyip

According to the Godzilla vs Kong trailer, we are set to see at least two new Titans which are;

8. Nozuki

Nozuki is a winged snake-like creature, seen in the trailer battling against Kong in what appears to be Hollow Earth. We are unsure if this battle is the present day or the past, it could even be one of Kong’s ancient relatives. Little is known about Nozuki at this point but we should know more after the Godzilla vs Kong release.

9. Warbat

The other new titan is Warbat, a red winged bat similar in style to Nozuki. Again seen battling Kong in Hollow Earth but it appears there is a future fight in the film due to a glimpse of Warbat soaring down onto Kong in an unknown location. Hopefully we’ll find out more about this titan during the Godzilla vs Kong movie.

It’s a pretty comprehensive list of enemies and allies, the Kaiju crew seem to continue to grow movie to movie, but we’re not complaining! Who is your favourite titan? Let us know in the comments.
